The ladies of the Newquay Thursday Club recently welcomed hundreds of locals to their Carols by Candlelight concert at St Michael’s Church in Newquay in aid of iSightCornwall.

The concert, which took place on Friday 21 December, included a programme of traditional carols inter-mixed with entertainment from the Celtic Fiddlers, Oll an Gwella and the Militant Wives Choir. Members of the 3rd Newquay Brownies also made an appearance in their nativity tableau presentation.

A spokesperson from the Thursday Club said “We would like to thank all that attended and supported our final event of 2018. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque for £5,151 to local sight loss charity, iSightCornwall, the total of our past year of fundraising efforts”.

Carole Theobald, Director of Operations for iSightCornwall said “We are honoured that the ladies of the Newquay Thursday Club picked iSightCornwall as their chosen charity. I attended the concert and it was clear that Maggie, Pam and the rest of the Thursday Club worked extremely hard to ensure that the evening was a success.

“On behalf of iSightCornwall, I would like to give thanks to the Newquay Thursday Club for organising the event, the 3rd Newquay Brownies and each of the singing groups who gave up their free time to make the evening such a rememberable occasion. I would also like to thank the Headland Hotel and Sainsbury’s of Newquay for sponsoring the Thursday Club.

“The money received will go towards delivering our vital services for all those in Cornwall with sight loss”.
