VisionZone 2023 success for iSightCornwall
Last week was a busy one for the iSightCornwall team as they took part in this year’s VisionZone event, teaming up with a range of partners to bring the roadshow to people in Cornwall.
VisionZone is organised by Optelec and sees the company travelling all over the country to bring the latest in low vision solutions to people. For the Cornish leg of the tour they teamed up with iSightCornwall and also invited Dolphin, the Macular Society, Cornish Talking Newspapers, Age UK, Blind Veterans and the RNIB.
Truro and Redruth
The team stopped first in Truro for a day before moving to Redruth the next. They saw hundreds of people who popped in to find out more about what support is available, to get demonstrations of the latest technology and to ask the team for help and advice.
iSightCornwall had representatives from their low vision, assistive technology and everyday living services on hand to answer any and all questions.
What was on offer
Those who attended could try a range of magnifiers that were displayed, getting advice on how best to hold and use one as well as find out more about how to get a low vision appointment.
Visitors could also get a look at the latest offerings from the world of technology, get advice on how to make their current devices such as a phone or tablet more accessible or learn more about using speech-based software.
Feedback
Dom Hall, iSightCornwall’s Assistive Technology Advisor, said: “It was a fantastic two days, and it was great to meet new faces and old friends. Teaming up with so many organisations, especially Optelec and Dolphin who create so much of the technology we demonstrate to clients, is a great opportunity for us to also learn new things and create opportunities where we can work together to help people in the future.”
The iSightCornwall team received very positive feedback both during and after the events.
One man who brought his father to the event said: “It was brilliant to be able to take my father to the iSightCornwall partnership event in Redruth. It was so helpful, there were lots of useful products and dad is made up with his stick. Thank you so much for all the hard work that it must of taken in arranging it.”
This year’s VisionZone marked a triumphant return to partnership events for iSightCornwall following a break for the pandemic. The team are hoping to organise more events in the near future and are looking forward to their AGM in October.
