Wine Fundraising Event marks big success for iSightCornwall

Old Chapel Cellars was filled with people last week as the highly anticipated ‘A Tasting Like No Other’ event took place at the independent wine merchants’ premises.

Created to help fundraise for iSightCornwall, Old Chapel Cellars’ Charity of the Year, the event saw more than 30 people guided through an evening of tasting different wines by the expert team at Old Chapel Cellars – all whilst blindfolded!

Blindfolded tasting

Guests were able to try and decipher if the wine was red or white, try wines which had their tastes changed by the food it accompanied and learn more about wine as the evening went on.

All profits from the night will be going to iSightCornwall and although the final total is still being counted, both the charity and the wine merchants were pleased with the success of the event.

A word from the Chief Executive

Carole Theobald, iSightCornwall Chief Executive who attended the event said: “It was a fantastic evening with a lovely atmosphere. I would like to thank Jamie and Louisa and the team at Old Chapel Cellars for organising such a brilliant tasting.

“Another big thank you to all of the guests who came along to support iSightCornwall, including the guests from the Cornwall Law Society who also joined in the fun. Every penny raised will be used to provide practical and emotional support to someone with sight loss in Cornwall.

Old Chapel Cellars co-owners

Co-owners of Old Chapel Cellars, Jamie and Louisa selected iSightCornwall as their charity of the year after searching for a local Cornish charity to support. After reading about the charity’s work helping people with sight loss in the county, it inspired the pair to think about what it would be like to lose their sight.

Louisa explained: “In our business we rely on our senses to tell us about the different wines, but what would happen if one of those senses were taken away? This was something that really resonated with us and is why we chose iSightCornwall to be our charity of the year.”

Inspiration of the event

This inspiration also helped create last week’s event with the Tasting Like No Other giving guests the opportunity to experience wine tasting with only taste and smell and to reflect on how that affects their perception.

Following the success of the event, both iSightCornwall and Old Chapel Cellars are looking forward to their next fundraising endeavour.
