Changes to the over 75 TV licence will come into effect from 1 August 2020. Anyone over the age of 75 will no longer be eligible for a free TV licence unless they or someone in their household receives Pension Credit. However, if you are registered as severely sight impaired you may be eligible to receive a 50% discount off the cost of your TV licence, regardless of your age.
If you are aged 75 or over and hold a free TV Licence which has expired or is due to expire on the 31st July 2020, you don’t need to do anything just yet. TV Licensing will write to you in August letting you know what action you’ll need to take for your next licence. However, if you want to apply for a 50% concession because you’re registered as severely sight impaired then you can apply now.
To apply for your blind concession visit the TV Licensing website.
If you are over 75 and you or someone you live with receives pension credit, the letter you receive in August will explain how to apply for your free licence. For further information you can read the general notice on the TV Licensing website.
