Emotional Support
We understand the devastating impact sight loss can have. That’s why we’re there every step of the way offering emotional support.
Whether its recent or longstanding, sudden or gradual, coming to terms with your eye condition takes time. For some people it can take a few months, for others it takes years.
Telephone Befriending
Living with sight loss can be very isolating at times, particularly if your mobility is limited and you struggle to get out of the house. So we offer a telephone befriending service for anyone who would like to have regular contact with one of our telephone befriending volunteers. You will be paired with a volunteer who will call you regularly, usually weekly, for a friendly chat. Having a phone call to lookforward to can really make a difference to your day.
Counselling
For some people, speaking to professionally trained counsellor is more beneficial. So we work closely with the Macular Society’steam of counsellors who provide a confidential telephone counselling service. If you have macular degeneration you can contact the Macular Society directly for this support. However, if you have a different eye condition, we can fund one-to-one telephone sessions with one of their counsellors following an initial assessment.
Coming to Terms with a New Diagnosis
We have a specially trained member of the team who can help you understand your eye condition and advise you on the support that is available. Our Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO) works closely with medical staff at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske so you can access the support you need from the moment you are diagnosed.
